FAQ - FILE PREPARATION AND ORDERING

What type of files can I send?
You may send .jpg, .tiff, .eps and .pdf. All files must either be outlined or flattened to avoid font issues. The Printing House.net will not accept any other file type or unflattened files.

What color mode should my files be in?
All files must be created in CMYK mode. Files sent in RGB will not be processed.

What resolution should my files be in?
All files must be in 300dpi. Files sent in any other resolution will not be processed.

How should I set up a bleed?
Please use a .125" bleed on all sides. Keep all text and anything that should not be cut at least .125" away from the cut line. For further assistance please use our templates.

How should I set up my file for proper rotation?
When one side reads different than the other, you should align the file how you want them to print before you send the files. For files not properly set up, The Printing House.net will use our best judgment and will not be responsible for improper rotation. Click here for example.

Why are the colors on my printed piece different than on my screen?
Colors may shift greatly from screen to printed piece. The colors on a computer monitor are created using a mixture of Red, Green and Blue colors, where as printed material uses a color combination of Cyan, Magenta, Yellow and Black. Also, we print your piece on a "gang run". Your piece shares a sheet of paper with several other customers, which means you share the overall cost of the print run, allowing us to provide a great product at a low price. Because your job is on the same sheet of paper as other jobs, very small amounts of color can run from the other jobs onto your job, creating a slight color variation.

How can I avoid a transparency issue?
To prevent this, never use shadows, glows or any other transparency or image on top of a spot color. Always convert the spot color to CMYK and flatten it before sending.

Should I send a proof or sample file?
When sending artwork, do not send extra files such as samples or proofs because they might get printed. Only send the files that you will be printing. The Printing House.net will not be responsible for any extra files being printed.

Can I submit multiple files in one document?
NO! We can only process one file at a time. Each side of a job must be in a separate file. Not separating the file will cause delays and you might need to send the files again.

How can I avoid my blues coming out as purple?
When using blue in your design, always make sure to leave at least a 30% difference in your Cyan and Magenta values. Blue is very close to purple in the CMYK print spectrum. Use as little amounts of magenta as possible. What seems to be blue on the screen might print out as purple. Consult a PantoneĀ® color chart for accurate print colors.

How do I get a grayscale image in a CMYK document?
Grayscale images that are converted to CMYK will have a color shift in the final print. That shift may be green or yellow. Always check the CMYK values of your grayscale in the final CMYK document. If there are other values other than K in your grayscale image, there is a chance that the color will vary. To eliminate all other values other than K, use your Channel Mixer (adjustment layer) in Photoshop, then click "Monochrome" and adjust accordingly.

What is rich black and how do I create it?
Rich black is a mixture of all CMYK colors. This results in a darker shade of black, than 100% black ink alone would get. We recommend using C=60%, M=40%, Y=40%, K=100% for a rich black.

Why does thicker cardstock crack around the edges?
Cracking of the edges occurs sometimes when the card contains high ink values, darker colors. To prevent this, use lighter colors, or if you must use dark colors, use as little ink as possible.

What type of shipping services are provided?
All items are shipped UPS. We unfortunately cannot use personal or business UPS accounts. All shipping will go through Printing House.net. Shipping is only available in the United States.
